Robert Simonyan Becomes World Sambo Champion in Indonesia

Armenia has a new world champion. At the 2025 World Sambo Championship for Juniors and Youth in Indonesia, Robert Simonyan won the gold medal in the youth 58 kg weight category, earning the title of World Sambo Champion.
Simonyan advanced through the tournament by winning all of his matches and reached the final, where he faced Anusherwon Nazardozai of Tajikistan. In the decisive bout, Simonyan showed skill and determination, securing victory with a score of 5:2. His win was officially announced by the Sambo Federation of Armenia, which confirmed that he is now the world champion in his category.
Armenia also earned success in the juniors’ competition. In the 71 kg weight category, Gor Shatveryan won a bronze medal, adding to the country’s medal count and strengthening Armenia’s presence on the international stage.
The opening day of the championship already brought Armenia both a gold and a bronze medal, a strong start that reflects the high level of preparation of the athletes.
