Armenia’s youth team made a powerful start at the Cairo 2025 World Para Powerlifting Championships, winning two gold medals and setting a new world record on the very first day of competition.
In a great showdown, Khoren Tsaturyan won the gold medal in the men’s up to 59 kg (Rookie & Gen Z) category. He lifted 142 kg, just 1 kg more than his compatriot Artur Babayan, securing the top spot in a close and exciting contest.
On October 9, 2025, Tsaturyan went on to achieve even more success, becoming the Youth World Champion in the 59 kg weight category with a total lift of 410 kg. His achievement shows his dedication, skill, and the strength of Armenia’s young athletes on the international stage.
The same day brought another proud moment for Armenia. Rafael Hamazaspyan, also a student of the same sports school, became the Junior World Champion in the 49 kg weight category. He achieved a total lift of 339 kg and set a new world record of 115 kg, marking a historic moment for Armenian para powerlifting. Both athletes trained under Coach Kristine Petrosyan.
