Armenian families are among those affected by the powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela, with the Holy See of Cilicia confirming that homes have been destroyed, several Armenians have been injured, and others remain missing.

According to the Holy See, two Armenian family homes collapsed in the disaster, while multiple members of the community sustained injuries. The full extent of the impact on the Armenian community remains unclear as rescue and recovery efforts continue.

In response to the tragedy, His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia, has been closely monitoring developments throughout the day. The Catholicos has remained in constant contact with Bishop Petros Manouelian, the spiritual leader of the Armenian community in Venezuela, receiving regular updates on the condition of the community and the ongoing emergency response.

Bishop Manouelian reported that the earthquakes caused severe destruction, widespread panic, and significant human and material losses, leaving many residents living in fear and uncertainty.

Church authorities in Venezuela are continuing to assess the needs of the Armenian community while maintaining close communication with Catholicos Aram I as the situation develops.

The powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, have killed at least 164 people and injured nearly 1,000 others, according to the latest reports, with search-and-rescue operations continuing across the affected areas.
