Armenia’s Grigor Ghazaryan Wins Goldat 2025 European Youth Weightlifting Championships in Madrid

Armenia’s Grigor Ghazaryan won gold in the boys’ 84 kg category at the European Youth Weightlifting Championships. The tournament took place in Madrid, the capital of Spain. Ghazaryan lifted a combined total of 338 kg, setting multiple European youth records and finishing far ahead of his competitors.

Ghazaryan completed all three lifts in the first part of the competition. He started with 140 kg, then lifted 145 kg, and finally 148 kg. That last lift set a new European youth record and won him the gold medal in this round.

In the clean and jerk segment of the competition, Ghazaryan kept up his strong performance. His opening lift was 180 kg, which was already a new European youth record both for the lift and for the combined total at that stage. He then lifted 185 kg and finished with 190 kg, breaking the record each time. These lifts also won him the gold medal in this category.

The total combined weight of 338 kg (148 kg in snatch and 190 kg in clean and jerk) gave him a clear victory and placed him at the top of the podium.

Earlier this year, in May, Ghazaryan also competed at the Youth World Championships in Lima, Peru. In that event, he competed in the 96 kg weight class and won gold with a total of 330 kg. He won top honors in both the snatch and the clean and jerk in Peru as well.

With several European youth records and two major international titles this year, Grigor Ghazaryan is rising as a leading figure among Europe’s youth athletes and a promising prospect for Armenia’s future in weightlifting.
