Armenian American Louie Zakarian Earns 19th Emmy Nomination After 27 Years Leading ‘Saturday Night Live’ Makeup

Armenian American makeup artist Louie Zakarian has earned his 19th Emmy nomination for his work on Saturday Night Live, further cementing a career that has made him one of television's most accomplished makeup artists.

Zakarian was nominated for Outstanding Makeup for a Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Program for the Saturday Night Live episode hosted by Bad Bunny. He shares the nomination with key makeup artist Jason Milani.

The latest recognition brings Zakarian's career total to 19 Emmy nominations and 11 wins.

Zakarian has served as the makeup department head at Saturday Night Live for more than 27 years, overseeing the rapid makeup transformations that have become a hallmark of the long-running live sketch comedy series.

His career spans more than three decades across television, film, theater and live performance. His credits include Bohemian Rhapsody, The Magnificent Seven, Southpaw, Across the Universe, Framing John DeLorean, Fringe, Vampires vs. the Bronx, You Should Have Left and The Week Of. He has also toured with Paul Simon and designed makeup for Broadway's Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.

Zakarian's latest nomination adds another chapter to a career that has helped shape some of the entertainment industry's best-known productions while continuing to bring Armenian representation to one of television's biggest stages.
