Armenian Lacrosse co-founder and coach Johnny Mouradian continued his 12-day Bible reading tour across Armenia on Saturday, sharing the passage in which Jesus declares that Peter will become the rock upon which he builds his church.
Mouradian’s fifth reading came from the 16th chapter of the Gospel of Matthew and began with Jesus asking his disciples who people believed he was.
“Some say John the Baptist, but others Elijah, still others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets,” Mouradian read.
Jesus then asks the disciples directly: “But who do you say that I am?”
Simon Peter responds by identifying Jesus as “the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
Jesus tells Peter that the answer was revealed to him by God before delivering one of the New Testament’s central statements about the establishment of the Christian Church.
“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it,” Mouradian read.
Mouradian concluded the Aug. 15 video by repeating the invitation that has guided each day of his journey.
“As always, bring a friend to church, bring a family member to church this Sunday and every Sunday,” he said.
Mouradian began his biblical road trip Aug. 11 at the History Museum of Armenia in Yerevan. His earlier stops included the Mesrop Mashtots statue outside the Matenadaran and the Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex.
He plans to visit a different historic, cultural or religious site each day through Aug. 22. Scheduled locations include Gyumri, Khor Virap, Oshakan, Vayk, Geghard, Mount Hatis and Akhtala.
The 12-day tour is expected to conclude at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin in Vagharshapat, the spiritual center of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the seat of the Catholicos of All Armenians.
Mouradian launched the tour to encourage Armenians to attend church and invite their friends and family members to join them each Sunday.
The daily videos are being shared on Armenian Lacrosse’s TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X, Telegram and Facebook accounts, as well as [ArmeniaLacrosse.com].
