Armenian PM Urges Recognition of Nation's Territorial Integrity: 'Time to Acknowledge Armenia's Borders,' Says Pashinyan

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the importance of recognizing Armenia's territorial integrity during parliamentary debates on Wednesday. Speaking on behalf of the government's performance in 2023, Pashinyan urged Armenians to acknowledge and uphold the internationally recognized borders of Armenia. He stressed that adherence to established norms is crucial for maintaining Armenia's status as a respected member of the global community.

Pashinyan addressed the delicate issue of Nagorno-Karabakh's status within Azerbaijan, acknowledging the pain associated with delineating between historical and real Armenia. He reflected on the sacrifices made for Armenia's statehood, highlighting the significance of protecting the nation's sovereignty and independence. Despite challenges, Pashinyan reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to peace and stability in the region.

The PM also shed light on diplomatic efforts, including discussions with the European Union (EU) regarding the extension of the civilian monitoring mission in Armenia. He emphasized the importance of international cooperation in promoting peace and economic development in the region.

In response to questions regarding Armenia's relations with neighboring countries, Pashinyan underscored the unique significance of ties with Iran. He emphasized Armenia's commitment to maintaining constructive relationships with both Iran and Western nations, without resorting to antagonism.

Regarding Armenia's interstate relations with Russia, Pashinyan acknowledged recent tensions but stressed the enduring importance of the relationship. He expressed readiness for dialogue and cooperation, emphasizing mutual respect and sovereignty.

Pashinyan also addressed the issue of Armenia-Turkey relations, highlighting the potential significance of opening the border between the two countries. He described such an event as epoch-making for the region and emphasized the need for continued efforts toward reconciliation and collaboration.
