Armenia’s young scientists once again proved their talent on the global stage, bringing home top prizes from the Open World Astronomy Olympiad in Sochi, Russia. The team of five students from the A. Shahinyan Specialized Physics-Mathematics School of Yerevan achieved remarkable success, winning three gold and two silver medals.
In the overall team results, Armenia proudly secured second place, ranking just behind Russia, the host country. This achievement shows not only the individual skills of the Armenian students but also the strength of the nation’s academic training in mathematics and science.
The team’s accomplishments were led by five outstanding participants:
Gor Hasratyan, 2025 graduate and now a first-year student at Yerevan State University – Gold Medal
Natali Margaryan, 12th grade – Gold Medal
Ruzanna Shiroyan, 12th grade – Gold Medal
Bagrat Bagratyan, 12th grade – Silver Medal
Anahit Galstyan, 12th grade – Silver Medal
Guiding the students was Artavazd Harutyunyan, head of the school’s Astronomy Olympiad group, whose leadership and preparation played an important role in the team’s outstanding results.
Their success was made possible through the support of the “Friend of the PhysMath School” Charitable Foundation, which fully covered the costs of the team’s participation. Thanks to this support, Armenia’s brightest young astronomers were able to represent their country and prove themselves among the world’s best.
