Armenian wrestler Janes Nazarian won the gold medal at the U17 World Wrestling Championships in Baku on Wednesday, securing his second consecutive world title and bringing Armenia's national anthem to Azerbaijan's capital.

Nazarian defeated Russia's Aslan Dzuev 4-3 in a hard-fought Greco-Roman wrestling final, successfully defending his U17 world championship.

The victory carried added symbolism because the tournament is being held in Baku, where Armenia's flag was raised and its national anthem was played during the medal ceremony despite the decades-long conflict between the two neighboring countries.

As Nazaryan stepped onto the podium to receive his gold medal, boos could be heard from sections of the crowd inside the arena. Despite the hostile reaction, the Armenian flag was raised and Armenia's national anthem played in Baku as the newly crowned world champion stood atop the podium after securing his second consecutive U17 world title.
