Chess Master Rudik Makarian Wins Moscow Open 2025 With Near-Perfect Score for Armenia

Armenian International Master Rudik Makarian has won the Moscow Open 2025, one of the most important chess tournaments held annually. The Armenian Chess Federation announced Makarian’s victory after his outstanding performance in the event.

Makarian scored 8.5 points out of 9 possible, finishing 1.5 points ahead of his closest competitor. With such a strong lead, he comfortably took first place in this highly competitive tournament.

The Moscow Open 2025 took place for the 21st time this year. Over 1,000 players from eight countries joined, making it an important event in the world of chess.

Rudik Makarian was born in Georgia and has competed under the Russian and Armenian chess federations. He first became well known when he earned the title of International Master in 2019. That same year, he won the World Youth Chess Championship for players under 16.

In 2020, Makarian became the Russian Junior Champion for players under 21. This achievement helped him become known as a strong young player in the world of chess. He also qualified for the FIDE World Cup in 2021, where he competed with some of the best players globally.

Makarian is especially skilled in faster types of chess games, such as blitz and rapid. His blitz rating has reached almost 2600 points, which places him among the strongest young blitz players in the world. In May 2025, he won a bronze medal at the Asian Blitz Chess Championship held in Al Ain, UAE.

Most recently, in July 2025, Makarian won the Moscow Open with an almost perfect score of 8.5 out of 9 points. Many chess experts see him as one of the rising stars in international chess. He is known for his sharp tactics and fast performance in both online and live chess tournaments.
