CSTO Asks Armenia to Clarify Its Relations with Organization
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is seeking clarification from Armenia regarding its future relationship with the organization. This request was made by CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov during a meeting of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, as reported by TASS.
"We expect the political leadership of the Armenian republic to clarify the prospects of its relations with the CSTO. This would be useful for all participants of our union, especially for planning future joint activities," stated Tasmagambetov.
Tasmagambetov noted a significant decrease in Armenia's participation in CSTO events over the past year. However, he emphasized that the essential mechanisms of interaction within the organization are still operational. "The Republic of Armenia remains a full member of the organization, and all obligations towards that country are fully maintained," he added.
In May, Armenia announced that it would stop making financial contributions to the CSTO, following its decision to suspend its membership in the organization. The Armenian government has criticized the CSTO for not fulfilling its security obligations, particularly in light of Azerbaijan's occupation of Armenian territory.
