Harutyun Hakobkokhyan Wins Gold at European U-23 Boxing Championship in Yerevan

Armenian boxer Harutyun Hakobkokhyan has won the gold medal at the European Under-23 Boxing Championship held in Yerevan.

Hakobkokhyan, the son of world champion and three-time European champion Israel Hakobkokhyan, secured Armenia’s second gold medal in the men’s competition. In the final match, he defeated Russia’s Iznur Zaypulayev with a score of 4:1.

Israel Hakobkokhyan, known as one of Armenia’s most celebrated boxers, also serves as his son’s personal coach. During the final bout, the legendary champion stood in his son’s corner, guiding him throughout the fight. He supported Harutyun with tactical advice and emotional encouragement, reacting with pride to each successful punch and counterattack.

The Armenian national team, led by head coach Rudik Mkrtchyan, has shown strong results in the Yerevan tournament. Earlier, Manvel Petrosyan became the European champion in the 63.5 kg weight category, bringing another gold medal for Armenia.

In the women’s competition, Elida Kocharyan won the gold medal in the 60 kg weight category, continuing her impressive career and adding to Armenia’s success at the championship.

The victories of Harutyun Hakobkokhyan, Manvel Petrosyan, and Elida Kocharyan are an outstanding performance for the Armenian boxing team at this year’s European U-23 Championship hosted in Yerevan.
