Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and U.S. Rep. Abraham Hamadeh met in Yerevan on Tuesday, with talks focusing on closer Armenia-U.S. ties, the peace process with Azerbaijan and the TRIPP project.
Pashinyan told the Arizona Republican that Armenia is seeking to build on its growing relationship with Washington, particularly in political, economic and technology cooperation, according to the prime minister’s office.
The Armenian government said Pashinyan pointed to the pace of recent engagement between the two countries and expressed confidence that the relationship would continue to expand.

Hamadeh also raised the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process. According to the government’s account of the meeting, the congressman highlighted Pashinyan’s personal role and efforts in moving the process forward.
The two discussed broader developments in the region and the implementation of TRIPP, a U.S.-backed initiative designed to establish new transportation links through Armenia.
Hamadeh’s visit to Yerevan follows a June meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku. Azerbaijan’s APA news agency reported that the two discussed the prospects for the TRIPP corridor and its potential role in improving regional transportation links.

The congressman has also introduced legislation in Washington seeking to repeal Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act. The provision, adopted in 1992, restricts certain U.S. government assistance to Azerbaijan.
