Pashinyan Receives Congratulations From Turkey and Pakistan Following Election Win

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has received congratulatory messages from the leaders of Turkey and Pakistan following the preliminary victory of his Civil Contract party in Armenia’s June 7 parliamentary elections.

According to the Armenian government, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan congratulated Pashinyan on the performance of the ruling Civil Contract party, which secured 49.8% of the vote according to preliminary results released by Armenia’s Central Election Commission (CEC).

“On behalf of my people and personally, I sincerely congratulate you on the success achieved by the Civil Contract party under your leadership in the parliamentary elections held in the Republic of Armenia on June 7, 2026,” Erdoğan said in his message.

The Turkish leader expressed confidence that Pashinyan’s efforts to establish “lasting peace and stability in the region” and promote regional cooperation would be successfully realized. He also wished prosperity and happiness to the people of Armenia.

Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif also extended congratulations, describing Pashinyan’s re-election as a reflection of the Armenian public’s confidence in his leadership and vision for a peaceful and progressive nation.

“Your re-election reflects the faith and confidence of the people of the Republic of Armenia in your leadership and your vision for a peaceful and progressive nation,” Sharif wrote.

The Pakistani prime minister said he looked forward to working with Pashinyan to strengthen relations between the two countries and emphasized Islamabad’s support for peace and constructive cooperation between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He also expressed hope that Pashinyan’s new term would contribute to peace, stability, and economic development across the South Caucasus.

The message carries particular significance given that Pakistan remains the only United Nations member state that officially does not recognize the Republic of Armenia. Islamabad’s position has historically been linked to its close support for Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Armenia’s Central Election Commission has summarized the preliminary results from all 2,005 polling stations nationwide. Under the preliminary count, Civil Contract received 49.8% of the vote, positioning the party to form a government for a third consecutive term.

However, the election process has not yet been formally concluded. Following appeals submitted by several opposition parties and alliances, recounts began on June 9 at dozens of polling stations across the country. The Central Election Commission is expected to announce the final official results of the parliamentary elections on June 14.
