PM Pashinyan and President Erdogan Meet in New York to Discuss Armenia-Turkey Relations Normalization
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. They discussed the ongoing efforts to normalize relations between Armenia and Turkey, which have historically been tense due to Turkey’s constant denial of the Armenian genocide.
During the meeting, both officials reviewed the steps that have been taken so far to improve relations and reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the normalization process without any preconditions. They expressed a desire to give new momentum to their diplomatic ties and discussed regional issues of mutual concern.
Prime Minister Pashinyan provided President Erdogan with an update on Armenia’s current negotiations with Azerbaijan. These talks are focused on settling ongoing disputes, including the readiness to sign an agreement that could help resolve long-standing conflicts between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Pashinyan also mentioned Armenia’s "Crossroads of Peace" initiative, which is a government effort aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region.
The exact details of their discussions have not been made public. Nonetheless, the encounter shows both government’s interest in moving forward on diplomacy and addressing broader regional challenges.
