Second Rare Leopard Since 2025 Spotted in Armenia’s Gndasar Conservation Area

A leopard has been spotted in Armenia’s Gndasar Community Conserved Area, becoming the second leopard recorded there since 2025, WWF-Armenia announced.
Wildlife cameras captured the animal on October 9 and 13 near the village of Zangakatun. The leopard was named Aghasy after the local caretaker who installed the cameras that recorded it.
Aghasy has worked in the protected area since its establishment in 2018, helping monitor wildlife and support conservation efforts.
The sighting is an encouraging development for conservationists working to protect leopards and their habitats in Armenia. WWF-Armenia said it also shows the value of involving local communities in protecting wildlife.
The Gndasar conservation area was established as part of the Eco-Corridor Fund for the Caucasus, a project carried out by WWF-Armenia in cooperation with Armenia’s Ministry of Environment. It is funded by the German government through KfW Development Bank.
