Wife of Released Armenian Prisoner Reacts to News in Emotional Call with The Armenian Report

The Armenian Report has spoken with Linda Euljeckjian, the wife of Vigen Euljekjyan, following news that her husband is among the four Armenian prisoners returned from Azerbaijan to Armenia. The conversation took place shortly after confirmation of the transfer, and her reaction reflected shock, relief, fear, and deep emotion after years of uncertainty.

During the call, Linda Euljeckjian confirmed that she had learned about her husband’s release the same day. Overcome with emotion, she struggled to process the news and expressed concern about her health and her ability to cope with the moment.

“Yes, that we can release today. I can't, please, my heart, it will stop. I want to come to Armenia, but I'm waiting for someone to buy me a ticket to come to see him.”

She repeatedly said she was unsure whether she could physically and emotionally handle seeing her husband after such a long separation and traumatic experience.

“I'm not sure, if I can see him. I feel like I will die before I see him.”

Linda Euljeckjian said she was still trying to believe that the release was real and not another disappointment after years of waiting.

She asked to stay in contact and said she was waiting for updates, while also mentioning financial difficulties that could prevent her from traveling immediately.

Vigen Euljekjyan, a Lebanese-Armenian, had been held in Azerbaijan since shortly after the 2020 war and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. His return to Armenia marks the end of a long period of detention and uncertainty for his family.
