Armenia is set to host the European Senior Shooting Championship for the first time in its history. The major sports event is an important moment for the country and shows how much Armenia’s sports sector has grown in recent years.
The opening ceremony will take place on February 27. Competitions will officially begin on March 1. Delegations from 40 countries are expected to arrive in Armenia. In total, around 450 athletes and coaches will take part in the championship. In addition, about 150 officials will attend the event. Athletes will compete for 70 sets of medals across different shooting disciplines.
The championship will be held at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex, one of the largest and most important sports and event venues in the country. Delegations are scheduled to arrive on February 26 and 27, just ahead of the opening ceremony.
Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan described the event as a major achievement for Armenia. She said the country has carried out large-scale preparations for the championship. An interagency commission coordinated the work to make sure all details were organized properly. Around 500 million drams ($1.32 million USD) have been allocated for the event. Part of this funding was used to purchase modern equipment. After the championship, this equipment will remain in Armenia and help improve the country’s sports infrastructure.
Andreasyan also expressed confidence in the Armenian national team. Armenian athletes are expected to compete in nearly all disciplines of the championship. Officials hope that strong public support will help motivate the team during the competition days.
The President of the Armenian Shooting Federation, Artur Hovhannisyan, said that the team is fully prepared for the championship. According to him, athletes have completed their training programs and are ready to compete at a high level.
Head coach Seyran Nikoghosyan also expressed optimism ahead of the event. He believes the team is in strong form and capable of winning multiple medals. Armenian shooters have been preparing intensively, knowing that this championship will take place on home soil for the first time.
Hosting the European Senior Shooting Championship is seen as a historic milestone for Armenia. It not only brings international attention to the country but also creates long-term benefits for local sports development. The investment in equipment and organization is expected to strengthen Armenia’s ability to host other international competitions in the future.
As Armenia prepares to welcome hundreds of athletes and officials from across Europe, excitement is growing among sports fans. The championship offers a rare chance for local supporters to watch top-level European shooting competitions live in Yerevan.
