Armenian Lacrosse co-founder and coach Johnny Mouradian continued his 12-day Bible reading tour across Armenia on Sunday, sharing Jesus’ teaching of the true vine from the Gospel of John.
Mouradian’s sixth reading came from the 15th chapter of John, where Jesus describes himself as the vine, his followers as the branches and God the Father as the vinedresser.
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser,” Mouradian read. “Every branch in me that does not bear fruit, he cuts away. The one that bears fruit, he cleans, prunes, so that it may bear even more fruit.”
The passage calls on believers to remain connected to Christ just as a branch must remain attached to a vine to grow and produce fruit.
“Abide in me and I in you,” Mouradian read. “Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it is established on the vine, likewise you cannot unless you are established on me.”
Jesus then tells his followers that those who remain in him will bear fruit, while those separated from him can accomplish nothing.
“I am the vine and you are the branches,” Mouradian read. “The one who is established on me and I on him will bear much fruit because apart from me, you can do nothing.”
Mouradian concluded the Aug. 16 video by repeating the invitation behind his biblical road trip.
“As always, bring a friend to church, bring a family member to church this Sunday and every Sunday,” he said. “Join the movement.”
Mouradian began the journey Aug. 11 at the History Museum of Armenia in Yerevan. Earlier readings were delivered beside the Mesrop Mashtots statue outside the Matenadaran and at the Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex.
He plans to visit a different historic, cultural or religious location each day through Aug. 22. Stops on the tour include Gyumri, Khor Virap, Oshakan, Vayk, Geghard, Mount Hatis and Akhtala.
The journey is expected to conclude at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin in Vagharshapat, the spiritual center of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the seat of the Catholicos of All Armenians.
Mouradian created the tour to encourage Armenians to attend church and invite their friends and family members to join them each Sunday.
