Armenian Students Win Five Medals at the World’s Top High School Math Competition in China

Armenia’s student team earned five medals and one honorable mention at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad in Shanghai, finishing 43rd among 120 participating countries.

Hayk Manukyan, a 10th-grade student at Quantum College, delivered Armenia’s strongest result with a silver medal.

Four other students won bronze. They were Tigran Hakheyan and Aren Grigoryan, both 10th-graders at Quantum College, along with Sarkis Arakelyan, an 11th-grader, and Arsen Makaryan, a 12th-grader, from the A. Shahinyan Physics and Mathematics Specialized School.

Arman Asatryan, a 12th-grade student at the same specialized school, received an honorable mention.

The Olympiad brought together 666 students from 120 countries. Each nation was allowed to enter up to six contestants, who completed two rounds of theoretical problems.

Armenia’s delegation was led by Grigor Kerobyan of WorldQuant and Narek Khandanyan of Krisp.

The team improved on its result from last year’s Olympiad in Australia, where Armenian students won three bronze medals and three honorable mentions.
