Armenian Teen Chess Players Celebrate Success in Europe

The Armenian chess community is celebrating a proud moment as two young players from Armenia achieved outstanding victories at the European Youth Chess Championships.

Seventeen-year-old Vahe Sukiasyan was crowned European Champion in the under-18 boys’ category, while thirteen-year-old Tigran Hambardzumyan became the runner-up in the under-14 division.


The Armenian Chess Federation shared a video of the award ceremony, calling it “a moment of pride for our academy and our nation.”

According to the federation, Tigran Hambardzumyan also triumphed in the open blitz tournament held during the European Youth and Girls Chess Championship. The event brought together 288 players from 40 countries, with no age restrictions. Hambardzumyan earned 8 points out of a possible 9, securing first place in the blitz competition.


The federation congratulated Tigran and his coach, Grandmaster Tigran Harutyunyan, for this remarkable achievement and wished them continued success in future tournaments.


Meanwhile, Vahe Sukiasyan’s victory came after a strong performance in the main European Youth Championship. He scored 7 points out of 9, sharing the top three positions, but claimed first place based on tiebreak results.
