The BERD Dance Ensemble, Armenia’s honored national dance collective, will travel to the United States this November to share its rich cultural heritage through a series of live performances. The tour will include three major cities—Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York—offering Armenian dance to both diaspora communities and broader American audiences.
Founded in 1963 by Balletmaster and People’s Artist of Armenia, Boris Gevorgyan, the BERD Dance Ensemble has become a cornerstone of Armenia’s cultural identity. Over more than six decades, it has grown into the country’s largest dance studio and earned recognition as one of its most important cultural ambassadors. The Ensemble’s mission has always been to protect and promote Armenian folk traditions through the universal language of dance.
In the 1990s, leadership of the Ensemble was passed down to Boris Gevorgyan’s son, Karen Gevorgyan. Under his direction, Armenian dance entered a new chapter. He introduced fresh ethnographic and choreographic methods, created more than 50 original works, and transformed oral traditions and migration stories into stage productions. His research on historical dance texts and fieldwork across Armenia gave the Ensemble’s performances even deeper cultural and historical meaning.
The impact of the BERD Dance Ensemble reaches far beyond Armenia’s borders. The group has completed over 40 international tours and performed before more than one million people worldwide. Its performances, blending precision with emotion, have made Armenian folk and traditional dances accessible to audiences from many different cultures.
Now, for the second time in its history, the Ensemble will tour the United States with three solo performances:
Los Angeles – November 9, 2025 | The Orpheum Theatre
Chicago – November 14, 2025 at 7:00 PM | Christian Heritage Academy
New York – November 16, 2025 at 5:00 PM | Oceana Theater
For the Armenian diaspora, these performances are not just artistic events. They are a living bridge to Armenia’s history and identity. Each dance embodies the spirit of the Armenian people, their resilience, and their connection to ancestral roots. The Ensemble’s work brings communities together, offering a shared sense of belonging and cultural pride.
Since its creation in 1963, BERD Dance Ensemble has participated in nearly 500 international festivals and given more than 1,000 concerts. Today, it continues to inspire audiences around the world by showcasing Armenia’s traditions through artistry and movement. With this U.S. tour, the Ensemble reaffirms its role as a cultural guardian, ensuring that Armenian dance remains alive for future generations.
