Diaspora Armenian Reflects on VOMA Training Camp in Armenia

A member of the Armenian diaspora who completed VOMA’s 10-day training camp in northern Armenia says the experience gave him practical skills while deepening his connection to the country.

The camp was held Aug. 14-23 in Athan, a village in Lori Province, and brought together participants from Armenia and Armenian communities abroad.

Training included firearms instruction, first aid, physical and tactical exercises, mountaineering, field marches and wilderness survival. VOMA said the program was designed to test participants in demanding conditions while building endurance, teamwork and preparedness.

In a video released after the camp, the diaspora participant explains why he decided to join, what he learned during the program and how the experience affected him personally.

VOMA has long promoted stronger ties between Armenia and the diaspora as part of its broader approach to civilian preparedness. The organization also advances what it calls a “nation-army” concept, centered on the idea that citizens and diaspora Armenians can play a more active role in strengthening the country’s resilience and security.

The camp placed participants in intensive day and night exercises in mountainous terrain, with an emphasis on working as a team under pressure.

For diaspora Armenians, VOMA presents the training as more than a skills course. The organization says it is also intended to create a stronger sense of responsibility, participation and connection with Armenia.
