As tensions grow in the Middle East, Armenia is quietly playing a key role in helping many foreign nationals—especially those from Nigeria—safely leave the region.
The Nigerian government has confirmed that it reached out to Armenia for help in evacuating its citizens stuck in Israel and Iran, where security has worsened due to ongoing conflict. According to Nigeria’s Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar, the Armenian government has been working with the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran to allow safe passage for evacuees through Armenian territory.
“The Embassy of Nigeria in Tehran remains operational and fully committed to the welfare and safety of all Nigerian nationals in Iran,” said a statement issued by the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “In response to the developments, the Embassy is actively engaging with the Government of Armenia to secure access for the evacuation of Nigerians via Yerevan.”
Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the cooperation and said it has provided similar support to many other countries. In a recent statement, Armenia said it has helped facilitate the safe evacuation of citizens from India, Kazakhstan, France, Germany, Spain, Cyprus, Austria, Norway, Switzerland, Georgia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone.
This is not the first time Armenia has offered humanitarian assistance in the middle of international crises. While a small country in a volatile region, Armenia continues to act with responsibility and compassion, offering help where possible—especially to vulnerable communities caught in the crossfire of bigger powers.
Armenia's capital, Yerevan, has become a critical transit point for those trying to escape danger. With nearby air travel routes closed or restricted, Armenia’s location and diplomatic neutrality have made it one of the few safe channels available for international evacuation missions.
