Subway Considers Major Expansion Into Armenia With Plans for More Than 60 Locations

Subway is weighing a major investment in Armenia that could bring more than 60 restaurants to the country — one of the largest potential expansions by an international fast-food franchise in the Armenian market.

The proposal was discussed Wednesday during a meeting between Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan, Subway Regional Director Efe Celik, and Armenian investor Levon Hayrapetyan, the Ministry of Economy said.

According to the ministry, each restaurant would require an estimated investment of $150,000 to $300,000, with the project expected to generate new jobs and expand opportunities for local businesses.

Subway representatives said the planned expansion would also help strengthen Armenia’s franchising sector by introducing international business practices and increasing cooperation with local suppliers. The company believes the project could raise food service standards while supporting the country’s growing hospitality industry.

Deputy Economy Minister Liliya Sirakanyan and Gohar Abajyan, director of the Investment Support Centre Foundation, also took part in the meeting.

The ministry did not announce when Subway could begin operating in Armenia or provide a timeline for opening the proposed restaurants.
