YouTube Launches Monetization in Armenia, Opening Income Opportunities for Armenian Creators

YouTube has officially launched its YouTube Partner Program in Armenia, opening the door for Armenian creators to earn money from their content, grow their audiences, and build digital businesses on the platform.

The launch is a major change for Armenia’s growing online creator community, which until now did not have access to YouTube’s monetization system. Starting from May 11, creators in Armenia who meet the platform’s eligibility requirements can apply to join the program and begin earning revenue through advertisements shown on their videos.

The YouTube Partner Program, also known as YPP, is the system through which creators, artists, and media organizations make money on YouTube. According to the company, more than 3 million creators around the world are already part of the program. Over the last four years, YouTube says it has paid more than $100 billion to creators, artists, news organizations, and media companies globally.

Under the new system in Armenia, creators must reach at least 1,000 subscribers and either collect 4,000 public watch hours on long-form videos during the last 365 days or receive 10 million public Shorts views within the last 90 days in order to qualify for monetization.

The decision is expected to create new opportunities for Armenian content creators, independent media outlets, artists, educators, and entrepreneurs who use the platform to share videos with audiences in Armenia and abroad. Many Armenian creators have long requested access to the monetization program, arguing that it would help them turn content creation into sustainable work.

Mkhitar Hayrapetyan welcomed the launch and described it as an important step for the country’s digital economy.

“Today marks an important step forward for Armenia’s creative and digital economy. We welcome YouTube’s decision to introduce the YouTube Partner Program for Armenian content creators – a long-awaited change that unlocks opportunities for monetization, empowers local voices, and supports a new generation of digital entrepreneurs.

This development will help Armenian creators turn their passion into sustainable work, showcase Armenia’s creativity globally, and strengthen our position in the international digital landscape. We look forward to continued cooperation with YouTube and other platforms to ensure that Armenia’s talent is fully recognized, rewarded, and connected to the world.”

YouTube representatives also said the company hopes the expansion will support free expression and economic growth in Armenia’s online space.

Leslie Miller said, “YouTube provides a platform for a wide range of voices, from independent news organizations to artists and entrepreneurs. We are committed to supporting free expression and creating new economic opportunities for this growing community of creators in Armenia. By launching the Partner Program, we hope to further empower these voices and can’t wait to see what they do next.”

Officials from the United States also linked the launch to growing technology cooperation between Armenia and the United States.

David Allen said, “The expansion of the YouTube Partner Program to Armenia builds on the broader U.S.-Armenia technology partnership, including our recent memorandum of understanding on AI and Semiconductor Innovation.  It will empower individual creators and entrepreneurs, amplify creative voices, unlocking new economic opportunities and job creation for both of our countries.”

The introduction of YouTube monetization in Armenia is expected to increase interest in digital content creation across the country. Analysts say it could encourage more Armenian-language content online while also helping creators reach international audiences and generate income through advertising, memberships, and other platform tools available through the program.

The move also reflects Armenia’s growing focus on technology, digital entrepreneurship, and the expansion of its online economy as more young Armenians turn to social media and digital platforms for work, communication, and business opportunities.
